We’re now past the halfway mark into the USF Study abroad: Florence program and by now everyone is homesick. I miss the American lifestyle, the food, places to go, my dog and most importantly my family. Back in my hometown in Jacksonville, Florida I lived less than 10 minutes away from the beach and being from Florida I was there all time, every chance I got. One of my favorite hobbies of all time is to go surfing, not just for the amazing beautiful golden tan but mainly for the adrenaline rush I get soaring through the water. I miss it all so much.On our third day in the Almafi coast, we visited a small town called Positano. For the first time in over a month I was reunited with the beach and the first time I didn’t think about home. I was in my happy place completely content. The highlight of today was jumping into open water from a 15 foot cliff. Did I mention I was terrified of heights? I managed to conquer my fear, yelling YOLO (you only live once) as I jumped to my impending doom. You can assume I made it out alive because here I am telling you the story. This is one of those things I cant wait to tell people about, “Hey remember that one time I jumped off a cliff ... in Italy.”
The city of positano is a pedestrian town, with many MANY stairs, you can find most of the locals traveling by foot and parking is very limited. Who needs the stair master when you live here? Positano is at the center of the famous Amalfi Coast and just south of Naples. What started out as a fishing village, became more popular and prominent with writers and artists in the 1950s. Because of the town’s great location and mild climate, the town is a hot spot from visitors across the globe from April to October.
