Just when you think you’ve seen it all, I’m once proven wrong by Italy’s beauty. This past weekend my roommates and I took a trip to the Almafi Coast and I can honestly say its my favorite place I've visited to date. A 7 hour bus ride to a place with beautiful beaches, great food, people and hot Italian men, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend getaway. The Bus2alps travel agency we booked through included hostel accommodations (not a hotel, I later learned this) for the weekend in the city of Sorrento. This would mark my first time staying in a hostel and I was nervous; You often hear stories and people talk about staying in hostel and believe it or not, they’re very common in Europe. We arrived at hotel Florida (don’t let the name fool you, this is a hostel) around 3 am and we were fortunate enough to only have 4 people in our room. “I've always wanted a bunk bed” Taylor (one of my roommates shouted) as we entered the room, but other than the bunk beds and lockers I didn’t see much of a difference between a hotel and a hostel. It was definitely an experience and I liked it.The city of Sorrento like other city in the Almafi is absolutely gorgeous. Sorrento is a small town located in Campania of southern Italy; It is inhabitanted by approximately 16,500 people. One word to describe this town, CLIFFS and lots of them. Being the mad crazy drivers they are on the long narrow roads on these scary cliffs, Italians are surprisingly safe drivers. I’ve realized that I have yet to see a car accident in the 3 weeks I’ve been in Italy unlike the states where you can find one every 15 minutes; They merge without blinkers, follow no road lines or speed limits, use narrow roads as a two way street and drive aggressively, weaving in and out of traffic. Sorrento is city is known as many things, land of colours, lemons, mysteries, beauty and traditions. According to the Greeks legend is, there are sirens who live beneath their beautiful clear seawaters charm, gracefully singing, enchant and bewitching visitors from across the globe to inevitably return to this beautiful peninsula. I miss it already and I vow to return someday.
